Levi Riter Cabin

  • Built in Salt Lake City, Utah 1847
  • Relocated in 1989

This cabin is one of only two known surviving buildings from the original pioneer fort in the Salt Lake Valley. It was built in 1847 and was purchased by Levi and Rebecca Riter, who came west from Pennsylvania. The cabin is constructed of split logs with a dirt floor and features a roof made of board and slab instead of sod. The Riters only lived in this cabin while a new home was being built. The cabin was then used as a workshop and storage shed.
