The original home was built in Atkinville in 1877, which is now an 18 hole golf course south of St. George, Utah. William Atkin, an Englishman, crossed the plains pulling a handcart in the 1850's. Wilford Woodruff, the fourth president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, lived for a time in the home in a room which came to be known as the “Wilford Room.”
