The Pack Home was built in Salt Lake City in 1848 by John Pack, one of the scouts sent ahead of the Brigham Young vanguard company to explore the Salt Lake Valley. This Multi-use adobe and frame dwelling, known as Pack’s Tavern, was the home of the first retail store and tavern in Utah Territory, and in 1852, would serve as the first home of the University of Deseret (University of Utah). John’s wife, Julia, lived on the site from 1848 through 1896.
