This building is a slightly scaled-down version of the original chapel which still stands in Pine Valley, near St. George, Utah. That building is the oldest church still in use in Utah. It was designed in 1868 by Ebenezer Bryce, a Scottish ship builder. He used ship building techniques to complete the structure, including using wooden pegs and strips of rawhide instead of nails. When the upper chapel was completed, the lower floor was converted into a two-room school-house.
