JOSEPH STAKER CABIN

Prattville, Sevier County, 1873

Joseph Smith Staker and his wife Sara Brown built this log home in 1873 in Prattville, four miles east of Richfield. The cabin rested on a foundation of lava rock, with a large flat piece used for the front step. The logs were carefully hand-notched so they could be locked together: and the chinking is the original. The Stakers lived in this one-room home, bearing six of their eleven children before Joseph was called by LDS Church leaders to move to Annabella, Utah where he served as the town’s first bishop.
