BLACKSMITH SHOP

Representational building of a shop in Brigham City, 1860
Built in 1981

Building a blacksmith shop was always one of the first priorities in a new settlement. Here the pioneer blacksmith would have built and repaired many items needed in the community, from fire pokers and cooking pots to plows and nails. As a farrier, he shod horses, mules, and oxen. With playbills and advertisements posted on the walls, the blacksmith’s shop also served as a favorite gathering place for curious children and local men wanting to catch up on the latest happenings.
