Built in 2001

Built in 1868 by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, this building was used as an observation structure for Meridian line placement and contained astronomical observation equipment. The original was located on the Southeast corner of Temple Square. Church leader, scientist and mathematician Orson Pratt taught classes in astronomy in the building for students attending the University of Deseret.
