Centerville, Davis County, early 1850s
Relocated in 1981
Charles C. Rich built this three-room farmhouse in Centerville for two of his six wives, Eliza Ann Graves and Sarah Jane Peck. Eliza and Sarah each had a bedroom and shared cooking and workspace in the middle. Each room had a separate entrance, which added to each woman’s feelings of independence. With the help of hired hands, these women ran the 61-acre farm that surrounded the home. They also provided income for themselves and their children, Eliza Ann as a tailor and Sarah with her spinning and knitting.
