Most herbal medicines in the 19th century were either wild plants or plants grown in the homeowner’s gardens. Godbe-Pitts & Company Drug Store offered both homemade drugs and some commercial remedies. Lobelia, an herb that was popular among the pioneers to cure just about everything, is grown behind the drug store.
