Pioneers of 1847 Monument

 

Pioneers of 1847 is a monument honoring pioneers Green Flake, Hark Wales, Oscar Smith and Jane Manning James.  This beautiful feature represents the African American contributions to the early Utah territory serves as a place of learning, reflection and healing.

The sculptures were created and sculpted by Stefanie and Roger Hunt of Hunt Sculpture Studio and cast in bronze by Metal Arts Foundry. Their stories are engraved in stone from the Brown’s Canyon quarry.

The Pioneers of 1847 Monument was made possible through private donations.
